Chickens

My, my how time flies.  I have not gotten used to blogging still. As you can see I have not been here for quite some time.  I am always getting lost reading other blogs instead of posting anything on mine.

I am so glad that fall is almost here.  This year my son, who is taking agriculture classes in college, brought home some little chicks, back in March.
They are no longer little. We have one Rooster and two hens. They have started to lay eggs.  We (I) was confused on if we could eat them or not. I heard so many different stories of, "If you have a rooster, he will fertilize the eggs and you will not be able to eat them."  and others saying, "Just check in their nest every day and collect the eggs, they will be edible."

Well, I finally had the nerve to try some this past weekend, and i have to tell you, They are better than store bought eggs.

But, I am sad to say that ever since we collected the eggs that our hens laid, they have not laid any more.

We will keep checking and checking.  Did I mention that they are free range in our back yard and they poop every where.  That, I do not like.  They are my son's but momma has to clean up after them.  I will have to figure out how to contain them a bit.

This is Mr. Rooster when he was younger.
This is Mr. Rooster. He is gorgeous!
 These are our two girls.
I think that these two are a couple. They are always together.
This is where we found the first hen laying her eggs.
